I don't Need Mayweather - Pacquiao

After winning boxing titles in seven weight divisions, pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao believes he has already marked his legacy in the sport.
Not even the promise of a multimillion-dollar payday in a possible bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr is tarnishing his dream of possible retirement.
“Our records will show I have beaten far better fighters compared to Mayweather. I’ve stated before that I am willing to fight him if that’s what the fans want to see. But if the fight doesn’t happen, I’m fine with it,” Pacquiao said in a report published on FightNews.com.
The reigning pound-for-pound king made the statement shortly after arriving in Manila following his World Boxing Organization (WBO) title defense against Joshua Clottey.
Pacquiao actually thinks it is Mayweather who needs him. It was widely perceived that the former-pound-for-pound title holder went out of retirement for a chance to slug it out with the Filipino boxing hero.
“He needs me more than I need him. If he wants the fight then let’s do it,” said the General Santos native.
The two boxing stars were supposed to have clashed on March 13 but the negotiation broke down when Mayweather insisted performance enhancing drug tests.
“I’m clean because I get my strength through hardwork and my faith in God,” said Pacquiao.
The Filipino boxing star is already considering retirement upon his mother’s wish.
Mommy Dionisia said she is constantly worried about her son each time he climbs in the ring, especially because his past few fights were against bigger opponents.
Pacquiao said he understands Mommy Dionisia’s concern for his safety in the ring.
“Syempre after kay [Miguel] Cotto nakiusap ako sa Mama ko, ‘Isang laban pa.' Pinagbigyan niya ako. Sa ngayon, paano pa ako makiusap ulit? Ano bang sabihin ko?” he said.
He also mentioned that his political ambition has nothing to do with his retirement plans.
“Kahit naman wala ‘yung eleksyon, walang pulitika, depende na sa desisyon naming pamilya. Matagal na kasi ako, matagal na rin sa boxing. Marami na akong nabigay na karangalan sa ating bansa,” said Pacquiao, who is vying for a congressional seat in the Sarangani Province.
