With the campaign period entering a crucial stage on Friday, the Liberal
Party of Sen. Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III has drawn up plans to keep
two “feuding" senatorial bets from crossing paths.
Aquino told reporters here that the LP has scheduled sorties such that
senatorial bets Ralph Recto and Sergio Osmeña III will not share the
same stage.
“Iba yata ang areas na kung saan sila mangangampanya. So madalang na
sila magkakasabay (The two will campaign in separate areas. We scheduled
the sorties such that they will seldom be together)," he said.
Osmeña had criticized the entry of Recto to the LP senatorial slate,
saying Recto played a key role in passing the controversial expanded
value-added tax (EVAT) when he was still senator.
Recto, who resigned from the National Economic Development Authority
(NEDA) to run for senator in the May 10 polls, sought re-election in
2007 but was unsuccessful.
In 2001, both Osmeña and Recto were on the side of the then new Arroyo
administration.
