Thou Shall Not Blink

It is said that camera is the most sensitive eye of all, even the naked cant see what the camera does. But do not be fooled by photographs, I will introduce you to Adobe Photoshop aka Camera's fool. Here are some camera capture image that at first you would see and authentic shot but was later discovered purge by the said software..(and guess what, they were caught)

Tourist Guy

Photography: PĆ©ter Guzli

Perhaps the creepiest Photoshop fake was this shot of Hungarian tourist, PĆ©ter Guzli, apparently standing on top of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 as one of the hijacked planes approaches.

This image did the rounds after the attacks with the claim that it was found in a camera pulled out of the rubble. In fact, Guzli had taken the picture in 1997 and made the edit for friends. Other people then made further edits placing him at every disaster from the sinking of the Titanic to the destruction of the White House by aliens on Independence Day.

The Smoke of War

Photography: Reuters/Adnan Hajj

PĆ©ter Guzli’s collage didn’t fool many people, nor was it intended to. Lebanese photographer Adnan Hajj’s shot of smoke billowing above Beirut following Israeli bombing in the summer of 2006 fooled the news desk at Reuters… but no one who had heard of Photoshop.

The repeat patterns in the smoke made lots of people smell a rat and it turned out that Hajj had even copied some of the buildings. LittleGreenFootballs made a neat analysis of the work done on the image and was one of the first to sound a warning. The result was a scramble among photo agencies to clarify their photo editing policies.

Here’s the less smoky original:

Iraqi Civilians

Photography: Brian Walski/Los Angeles Times

Adnan Hajj was a local stringer trying to make a political point. Brian Walski was a staff reporter for the Los Angeles Times who just wanted to make a better picture — a much more likely trap for both photographers and editors. After shooting a series of shots of American troops and Iraqi civilians in 2003, Walski found that the best composition came by merging two images together. He was fired.

John Kerry And Jane Fonda

Photography: Owen Franken/ Ken Light

Usually, it’s the photographer who does the editing, either because he thinks he’ll get a better picture or because he believes it will deliver a stronger message. This fake cutting that circulated during the 2004 Presidential primaries was the work of neither of the two photographers whose images it featured. The shot of John Kerry was taken by Ken Light at the Register for Peace Rally in June 1971. Jane Fonda was photographed by Owen Franken as at a political rally in Miami Beach, Florida, in August 1972.

The collage was a dirty trick designed to derail John Kerry’s campaign.

Shirtless Sarkozy

So what’s the opposite of a dirty trick? French President Nicolas Sarkozy gave American photographers a scolding for intruding on his American vacation in the summer of 2007 but he wouldn’t have minded what the editors at Paris Match (owned by his friend, Arnaud Lagardere) did to his love handles. Rivals L’Express pointed out that the President had been given some Photoshop liposuction.

Oprah the Model

And Oprah Winfrey might not have complained about this August 1989 cover of TV Guide either. It’s Oprah’s head all right but according to CNet.com the body belongs to actress Ann-Margret. Ann-Margret’s fashion designer recognized the dress and spotted the fakery.

The Reichstag Flag

reichstagflag.jpg

Not strictly speaking a Photoshop fake as the program wasn’t around during the Second World War, but just a reminder that playing with fake smoke and mirrors isn’t new to the modern era.

Ukrainian photographer, Yevgeny Khaldei, didn’t just stage this photo of Soviet troops raising the flag over the Reichstag in 1945 (the first flag had gone up after dusk). He also heightened the smoke and removed the two watches from the wrists of the soldier on the lower left. Good Soviet soldiers don’t loot.

Reasons why Lakers won

1. Lamar Odom
Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom(notes) stumbles over Denver Nuggets forward Linas Kleiza(notes) during the second half at Game 5 in the NBA Western Conference finals playoff basketball series, Wednesday, May 27, 2009, in Los Angeles.

AP - May 28, 12:53 am EDT

LOS ANGELES – The night began like so many have for Lamar Odom(notes). His back ached. He had no rhythm, no shot, no … nothing. He drove hard to the rim and, suddenly, Chris Andersen(notes), the Denver Nuggets’ frenetic center, was there, swallowing up the ball before it could leave Odom’s hand.

The Los Angeles Lakers had come to expect this from Odom the past two weeks. They knew he was hurting. They also knew they couldn’t count on him, even if they wouldn’t admit it.

Odom knew this, too. So with the fourth quarter having now arrived, with the Lakers’ season having reached a crossroads, he took a pass from Kobe Bryant(notes) and looked up to see Birdman Andersen again standing between him and the basket. Odom bounced hard off the court, past Andersen, cradling the ball just long enough to let everyone know the ferocity that awaited.

An instant later, Odom was punching the ball through the rim, crashing down on Andersen. He lingered for a moment, staring past his teammates at all those delirious fans, and roared back, a moment that seemed as cathartic as it was exuberant.

2. Poor Denver Defense

Kobe Bryant(notes) offered himself up as bait and the Denver Nuggets bit. That freed up Lamar Odom(notes) and Pau Gasol(notes) on the inside, where the Lakers’ big men dominated.

3. Good Finish

So it all came down to the final 12 minutes.

Bryant, Odom and Gasol teamed for all but seven of the Lakers’ 27 points in the fourth. They opened on an 11-0 run for their first lead of the second half and it was capped by Shannon Brown’s(notes) jumper that beat the shot clock.

“He came in, gave us a huge spark and that’s what you need,” Bryant said of Brown. “It’s about who controls momentum.”

The Nuggets used a 13-6 run to close to 93-89. Linas Kleiza(notes) scored seven straight and Anthony had six in the spurt.

But then the Lakers regained control and finished off the victory. They improved to 20-0 in Game 5s at home when a series is tied 2-2.

“The games that we’ve lost, they had an advantage on the inside,” Anthony said. “The games that we’ve won, we had an advantage. We had to go to a smaller lineup tonight and they kept their big lineup on the court. That kind of hurt us a little bit. We’ve got to do a better job of keeping our big men out of foul trouble.”

4. Poor Officiating?

“I thought they got the benefit of the whistle,” Karl said. “Every player in my locker room is frustrated, from guards to big guys. Gasol goes after at least 20 jump shots, 20 shots to the rim and gets one foul; our big guys have 16. Nene has six fouls, three or four of them don’t exist.”

Karl said he didn’t want to get himself fined before agreeing with Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy, whose team leads Cleveland 3-1 in the Eastern Conference finals.

“In the post game we’re lobbying for the league to help us with the refereeing,” he said. “This is too good of a series. It’s too good of teams competing that we’re sitting here just confused by the whistle.”

5. Lakers Play Team....

Understandable how Kobe Bryant passes the ball.

NBA GAMES Denver vs. Lakers

Important Game for Denver
To make the NBA Finals for the first time—and bring their tattoos, athleticism and exuberance to the biggest stage of all—the upstart Denver Nuggets must win two games in a 48-hour span against a savvy Los Angeles Lakers team that is shooting for its 30th Finals appearance.

Oh, and L.A. hasn’t lost back-to-back games since March.

The Nuggets might very well be the better team in the Western Conference finals, with a deeper bench, more muscle and better health than the tired, injured and often disjointed Lakers. But they also tend to implode at the worst times.

There’s the taunting after big shots, the complaining after calls and the botched inbounds passes that cost them Games 1 and 3 and a chance at brooming the Lakers right out of the playoffs.

Now, they’re one loss away from summer vacation.
